Ich habe Probleme mit dem Wort Atheist- Das Wort beinhaltet den "Theos", um mit der Vorsilbe "a-" gegen ihn zu sein, zw. sich von ihm zu distanzieren. Warum soll ich gegen etwas sein, das in meinem Leben nicht die geringste Bedeutung hat, dessen Existenz weder bewiesen noch widerlegt werden kann? Der "A-Theist" braucht Gott immer noch (in seiner Bezeichnung), um gegen ihn zu sein, dass heißt, er ist nicht wirklich frei von ihm.

Warum nicht eventuell Agnostik in Betracht ziehen ? Alle diese Bezeichnungen haben ihre Vor- und Nachteile. Aber mit dem Agnostiker kann ich oft immer noch am meisten anfangen.
Ich glaube nicht was ich nicht gesehen habe oder wofür es keine Belege gibt - aber ich schließe nicht aus, dass es Dinge gibt, die über meinen Horizont gehen. Im Gegenteil ! Die wird es geben. Aber ich muss nicht anfangen an "bekloppte" Bücher zu glauben wie die Bibel, sondern kann mir meine eigenen Gedanken machen in Richtung "gibt es eine höhere Intelligenz" ? Ich muss mir das nicht selbst immer zwangsläufig beantworten. Wie müssen sich nur die alten "Steinzeitmenschen gefühlt haben ohne eine leise Ahnung von Logik oder Wissenschaft" ? Das ist bestimmt eine der Quellen für "religiöses Denken" in der weiten Vergangenheit...
Aber die ist jetzt rum...
Eben Agnostiker...

Das Wort Atheist ist m.E. zu speziell.
Wir sind Personen, die den Unterschied zwischen der Wirklichkeit und offensichtlich blödsinnigen Märchen wahrnehmen - ohne dass diese dabei auf Geschichten über die sogenannten Götter beschränkt wären.
Ein allgemeineres Wort wie A-blödsinn-glauber wäre vielleicht passender - die treffende Bezeichnung "Brights" gefiel mir auch ganz gut.

Solange wir unsere Steuergelder (auch versteckt) in die Finanzierung von Kirchen und deren Entourage stecken, solange Homosexuelle sich in der Öffentlichkeit Anfeindungen ausgesetzt sehen, die ganz klar religiöse Hintergründe haben, solange Wissenschaft sich gegen Anfeindungen religiös motivierte Menschen und Gruppierungen zur Wehr setzen muss, so lange kann von Freiheit von Gott oder dem Glauben an einen solchen nicht die Rede sein! Um es mit Dawkins Worten zu sagen, ich bin so sehr "A-Theist", wie ich "a-fairyist" bin, Nur muss ich heute nicht mehr extra darauf hinweisen, dass es keine Feen gibt, Odin, Zeus, oder Bal nicht real sind, also brauche ich auch keinen Terminus, der das zum Ausdruck bringt. Mit den drei monotheistischen Religionen in unserer Zeit sieht das jedoch noch ganz anders aus, ich denke ich muss nicht auf die Vorgänge in Gaza, um IS, Boko Haram, oder dem Amerikanischen Bible-Belt hinweisen, um das zu belegen. Und so lange, muss es eben noch den Begriff des Atheismus geben!
Für mich persönlich ist es nur die Null-Hypothese zur aufgestellten und nicht belegten Hypothese der Existenz eines Gottes, wie Menschen ihn proklamieren. Aber das ist eben meine innere Haltung, die ich ja für gewöhnlich mit mir selbst nicht diskutieren muss - das ist bereits vor langer Zeit geschehen und das Ergebnis steht fest! So ist der Begriff der Ausdruck meiner diesbezüglichen Haltung (die im Gegensatz zu Theismus keine Weltanschauung ist, sondern nur diesen einen Punkt der Weltsicht betrifft), wenn es zum Diskurs des Themas mit anderen Menschen kommt.

In einer Gesellschaft, wo keine theistische Religion sich befindet, wären alle beiden Wörter 'Theist' und 'Atheist' unnötig, abgesehen vielleicht in der Fiktion. Man soll sich erinnern, dass das Wort 'Theist' sich auf einen Menschen bezieht, der glaubt, dass Götter existieren oder ein Gott existiere. Es bezieht sich nicht auf die vermutlichen Wesen, woran der besagte Mensch glaubt, sondern auf diesen gläubigen Menschen selbst.
Die Wahrheit eines Glaubens beruht nicht auf der Bedeutung eines Wortes sondern auf den Beweisen, die man zur Stützung des Glaubens vorlegen kann. Es gibt viele Menschen, die an Götter glauben -- man braucht nicht fern suchen, um sie zu finden -- aber nach Tausenden von Jahren suchen wir immer noch ohne Erfolg Beweise für die Existenz irgendwelcher Götter.
